Stephen Malkms has released a new album titled “Groove Denied.” This album was written in Berlin and Oregon, between Malkmus’ soundtrack to the Netflix series Flaked and his previous album “Sparkle Hard.” Malkmus recorded the album by himself in Oregon, playing various instruments like bass, organ, drum machines, a Roland 2080 and a Memorymoog, interspersed with loops and vocal effects. This is the first album that Malkmus has released as a solo artist since 2001. “Groove Denied” is a playful and exploratory album, with Malkmus experimenting with Auto-Tune and different music genres, echoing the experimentation found in his previous album “Sparkle Hard.”
