Elliott Smith left behind a bountiful body of work, culminating in From a Basement on the Hill (2004) and his posthumous double CD, New Moon (2007, Kill Rock Stars). The 24 tracks on New Moon were recorded during ’94-’97, when Smith created his self-titled album and Either/Or. As with all his material, New Moon brims with beguiling music and evocative lyrics. Only 3 tracks have been released before, all on comps with limited pressings. Larry Crane, Smith’s estate archivist, mixed the album for issue. A piece of the proceeds will benefit Outside In, a Portland-based organization helping homeless youth and needy adults.
