“#KingButch” is the upcoming album of Butcher Brown and will delight fans of deep grooves. It is their eighth LP and the first on Concord Jazz, an imprint of Concord Records. The 13 tracks capture the development of the five-piece group from Richmond, Virginia. They remain true to their intoxicating mix of modern jazz/electronics, hip hop, 70s fusion, 60s jazz, echoes of funk, southern rock and marching bands. “#KingButch” is a strong statement that transcends genres, generations, origins and geography. As an explosive live band they already have an outstanding reputation, now they show what they can do in the studio and how exactly their songs are structured. Like many of their previous albums, “#KingButch” was recorded at their “nerve center”, Jellowstone Studios. The different talents of the band members come into full play here: DJ/Producer/Keyboarder DJ Harrison, Drummer Corey Fonville, Bassist Andrew Andrew Randazzo, Trumpeter/Saxophonist/MC Marcus “Tennishu” Tenney and Guitarist Morgan Burrs. The album also features the production skills of Chris Dunn (N’Dambi, NEXT Collective, Leela James, Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah), Senior A&R of Concord Records. The recordings took place in two wild weeks of October at the end of 2019. The album is dedicated to Jack Leitenberg. Their much-loved co-manager passed away last year.
