After first thrilling audiences outside their home countries on SXSW, The Great Escape and Fuji Rock, The Teskey Brothers debut album “Half Mile Harvest” is now being re-released on Decca Records and Vertigo, along with the two new tracks “I Get Up” and “Say You’ll Do”. The brothers Josh (vocals) and Sam Teskey (guitar) from the Yarra Valley just outside Melbourne share their love for the American soul music of the 60s with their neighbourhood friends Brendon Love (bass) and Liam Gough (drums). Listeners to the album inevitably feel transported back to Memphis in 1967. “Half Mile Harvest” was recorded completely analog with an old tape machine and honors the sound of old Stax Records and Motown records. Despite the reminiscences of their musical heroes, the band’s irresistible groove and Josh Teskey’s smoky whiskey voice turn the whole thing into something very independent.
