During an 11-hour boat ride to the island of Anafi, Stella Chronopoulou began writing Adagio, her fifth album as Stella. This would mark her first time singing in Greek, her native tongue. She had started the record in 2019 as a way to take a break from personal turmoil and found herself composing a rough instrumental while on the ferry. As the boat sailed through the Mediterranean, she let go of unnecessary baggage through the tranquil melody and the addition of psychedelic keyboards and staccato drums. Though she was not ready to complete the track, she knew it would come to fruition in due time.
