When Teebs and Mike began writing songs for what would becomereflections & refractions volume one, they werent sure if the songs would be released as Out of Service, a side project, or at all. In March of 2020, they started putting together songs that varied in style in an acoustic format. Mike and Teebs then presented the tracks to the rest of the band. Brian and Kenny agreed that these songs wereessential to the Out of Service narrative, so they all hauled up and tracked the album over 3 months atPerkins Center for the Arts– a building that is over 100 years old.The entire record was tracked in the living room of the building using the wooden floors to capture their reflective and refractive sound. What came out were11 songsthatfelt extremely freshwhile alsocapturing the essence of Out of Service in an acoustic format. The songs tackle a wide range of lyrical narratives including isolation, depression, social justice, and love. With this record,Out of Service hopes to show listeners both new and old that they wont be pigeonholed into any single genre.
