Yusef Lateefs Jazz Round the World marks his first release for Impulse, capturing the artist at a pivotal turning point. While his earlier recordings stayed largely within the jazz tradition, this 1964 label debut looks outward, drawing from a wide range of global folk melodies reimagined through Lateefs singular voice. Long before the term world music existed, Lateef was already there. Across the album, he moves fluidly between tenor saxophone, flute, oboe, and bassoon, joined by Richard Williams on trumpet, longtime collaborator Hugh Lawson on piano, Ernie Farrow on bass, and Lex Humphries on drums. This Verve Record Club pressing marks the albums first proper reissueand its first appearance on vinyl in over 50 years.
